:A diver employed at a fish farm in San Pedro del Pinatar has died after accidentally shooting himself in the chest with his own harpoon.

It happened shortly before 9.30 on Monday morning when, as Europa Press reports, the call came through to the 112 emergency number that the diver was seriously injured and was being transferred by boat to the local port.

All attempts to revive the 34 year old man, both on board the boat and after reaching port, were however unsuccessful. The exact circumstances of the accident are under investigation.
