Costa del Sol population boost: "The population of the Costa del Sol region of Spain has grown by a quarter of a million over the past ten years according to new figures released recently.
The Malaga province now has a total population exceeding 1.6 million with the vast majority of the new residents concentrated on ten key areas attracted by a growing tourist economy and construction boom.
Benalmadena was amongst the most popular regions with over 29,000 new residents arriving to almost double the population increasing it to 61,000. The city of Malaga City has not escaped the steep increase with 36,942 new residents arriving. Another area to see a large increase was the coastal town of Mijas with 34,450 new residents taking the population to 75,500."
