A fire which broke out on Thursday morning in a shop undergoing renovations in Cádiz has resulted in a large black cloud of smoke forming above the city.
The cause of the fire in Calle Brasil is not yet clear, although there are reports that it broke out as insulation was being installed. It resulted in smoke being blown across the façade of the block turning it black with soot.
100 residents had to be evacuated from their homes, and a neighbouring hotel also had to be emptied. One resident of the block has refused to leave, and has been watching the fire from his balcony on the tenth floor.
Some 40 people, including five children gathered on the hotel roof out of the reach of the smoke.
