Arbiter rules that Spanish Air Traffic Controllers be paid less to work fewer hours

Arbiter rules that Spanish Air Traffic Controllers be paid less to work fewer hours: "Manuel Pimentel, the designated and agreed arbiter between AENA, the Spanish Airports Authority, and the USCA, Air Traffic Controllers Union, has announced his binding resolution on both sides in the dispute over wages and conditions.

He considers that the air traffic controllers to work fewer hours, and has fixed the average wage at 200,000 € a year. This is lower than at present and moves the Spanish controllers’ income closer to the European average.
Working hours are reduced from 1711 to 1670 this year, and will go down to 1595 from 2013.

Pimentel explained his conclusions by saying ‘In Spain the controllers work more than the European average, but they are paid much more’.

In fact the wage level was agreed between AENA and the controllers last August."
